New visitors from the sky/空から新しい訪問者

For once, here is a post from something that just took place. A little while ago, one of the ashram residents noticed a couple of large, black birds in the field just a few hundred feet away. I went outside to photograph them and was surprised at how large they were. Here is the first photo I took, zoomed in to see the birds better.今回は、たった今起こった出来事を投稿します。ほんの少し前、アシュラム住人の一人がここから数フィート離れた所に、２匹の大きな黒い鳥が草原にいることに気づきました。私は写真を撮るため外へ出たのですが、彼らの大きさに驚きました。これが最初に撮った写真です。鳥がよく見えるようにズームを使いました。

You can see that a ground squirrel met with a grim fate.地リスが残酷な運命に鉢合わせてしまった瞬間がわかりますよね。

I guess I got too close, as they suddenly flew off…おそらく私が近すぎたのでしょう、彼らは突然飛んで行ってしまいました・・・

Later, I used a website to upload one of these photos, and it promptly identified the bird. Can anyone guess what they are?その後、あるウェブサイトに写真を載せたところ、すぐにこの鳥たちの正体がわかりました。皆さんは彼らがなんという種類の鳥かご存知でしょうか？

They are turkey vultures. Hard to tell how large these birds were, but supposedly the adult wingspan is between 5 to 6 feet (160-183 cm) and they can weigh over 5 pounds (2.3 kgs). Later, they flew into the sky and started spying on me.その後、空を飛びまわり私のことを尾行し始めました。

Maybe they were sizing me up for prey, or maybe it was Amma checking in on me…もしかすると、私のことを獲物として目をつけていたのかもしれません。 あるいは、アンマが私のことをチェックしにきたのかもしれません・・・
